We recently got a dresser at a garage sale and didn't realize until we got it home that it smelled like cigarette smoke. Yuck. I tried spraying it with febreeze, diluted bleach and letting it air out. Didn't work.
I bought the gel variety and placed it in the back of a drawer and by the next morning the smoke smell was gone. I still have it in there after a month. I took it out after a few days and I could smell the odor again. I'm sure it will take it a while to get rid of the smell entirely. But I am happy that it works!
This does give off a slight scent, but it isn't overpowering.
